A dropped kerb is a separate application from the driveway itself, and the council sets the specification the crossing has to meet. Get it applied for before we start rather than after — a finished driveway with no legal way across the pavement to reach it is a problem we'd much rather you didn't have.
Two reasons. A lot of the town is built on a slope — Beacon Edge especially — so water on a driveway is always going somewhere, and the house is the easiest place for it to end up. And the Eden Valley gets proper frosts. Water that sits in a badly laid drive freezes, expands and lifts the blocks, which is why a driveway that looked fine in its first summer can be rocking by its second spring. Getting the falls and the sub-base right is most of the job here, and it's the part a cheaper quote usually skips.
Yes, and it's worth doing. A lot of Penrith is built in the local red sandstone, and a cold grey block drive in front of it can look like it belongs to a different house.
